Mrs. Bessie Ruth Graves of Independence, Missouri, was born June 1, 1952 in Springfield, Missouri the daughter of Amon Delbert Brown. She departed this life Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 54 years, 10 months and 12 days.
On July 31, 1997, Bessie was united in marriage to David Allen Graves in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Bessie was employed as a receiving forklift operator for W.W. Grainger Company, Kansas City, Missouri since 1995. She was a member of the National Street Rod Association and a club member of the Show-Me Rods, Independence, Missouri. Bessie enjoyed cooking, baking, bowling, softball, gardening and street rodding. She had lived in Halltown, Missouri and Edgerton, Missouri before moving to Independence in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her father; a daughter, Kenna S. Davis; three grandchildren, Telisha, Tawnya and Clayton; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, David Graves of the home; a son, James F. Freeman III and wife, Suzanne, Lee's Summit, Missouri; three daughters, Lana J. Ellis and husband, Charles, Seattle, Washington, Felicia L. Harmer and husband, Shawn, Pamela L. Ballard and husband, Joey all of Edgerton, Missouri; a step-son, Elliott Kyle Graves, Grain Valley, Missouri; a step-daughter, Susie Elaine Shotton, and husband, Matthew, Independence, Missouri; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven brothers and two sisters; other relatives and many friends.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.
Graveside service and interment were held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
