Betty Bartlett, 94, departed this life on a beautiful sunny day June 11, 2013, at the Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. Betty was born on July 21, 1918, in Wichita, Kansas, the third and youngest daughter of Clarence Garfield and Christa Kinnear Barnett. She married Simon Edgar Bartlett on October 20, 1943 in Harrisonville and they lived on their farm east of Harrisonville until Simon’s death. Betty continued living there until moving to Harrisonville in 2005.
Betty was a long-time member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible School, and served in many other capacities over her 60-plus years of membership. She enjoyed her time as one of the “quilting ladies” at the church, using her hands to help raise funds for various church projects. Betty was a member of Eastern Star and White Shrine for over 50 years. She was an active and cheerful volunteer for many causes as long as her health allowed.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Alice Barnett and Kathryn Barnett; and her husband Simon. She is survived by her son Bob and his wife Jo of Warrensburg; the light of her life, her grandson Scott and his wife, Denise of Jefferson City; and her precious great-granddaughters Makenzie and Avery, as well as a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
