Robert (Bob) was born January 12, 1943, at home on a farm near Ava, IL, to John Howard and Bonnie Mae (Davis) Stein. He attended grade and high school at Vergennes, IL.  He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. IL with a major in social sciences. He joined the Navy, but illness prevented him from continuing the service as a career.

Bob worked as an inventory management specialist for the government. A transfer brought him to MO. For many years Bob and Marilyn enjoyed being reenactors in an Old West acting troupe. Bob wrote several of the skits they performed at various festivals. He had a good imagination and wrote six books, some of which were published. And he wrote short stories for some of the grandkids with them as the main character. He also liked to tinker with various projects. Once he made a quadricycle for the grandkids to enjoy.
