Bobby Lee Smith was born June 8, 1928 near Urich, MO the son of Maynard and Lola Mae (Stevens) Smith. He departed this life on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO.
Bobby attended Urich High School. He served in the Korean War as a motor pool mechanic in the Army.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Box on November 7, 1953 in Calhoun, MO and to this union four children were born. He worked at General Motors in Maintenance for 30 years, and was a proud member of UAW Local 93. During his retirement he enjoyed camping, going to dirt track races, watching races on television and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Rose (Singer) Smith, his son Danny Ray Smith, and an infant son. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Englehart and Teddy Smith and one sister Betty Gibson-Reynolds.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy L. Smith of the home; a son, Gary L. Smith of Clinton, Missouri; a daughter Donna Shipley and her husband Martin of Drexel, Missouri; a daughter-in-law Linda Smith of Garden City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Denise Bennett and her husband Gregg of Liberty, Missouri, Kevin Smith of San Diego, California, Ashley Cook-Carver of Garden City, Missouri, Tanner Shipley of Drexel, Missouri, Whitney Smith of Archie, Missouri, and Keifer Shipley of Drexel, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Cooper, Natalie & Jackson Bennett and Kayden Smith; and two sisters, Joann Cook and husband Eddie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Linda Crist and husband Bob of St. Louis, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Dickey Funeral, Garden City, Missouri. Inurnment will be in the Calhoun Cemetery, Calhoun, Missouri. Cremation.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Calhoun Cemetery Association.
