Carole Beth (Barnes) Carey, 85, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born September 14, 1938, to Twanitta (Garrett) and Norman Barnes in Columbus, Kansas.  She graduated from Picher, Oklahoma, high school.   Carole married Donald Carey on November 27, 1953, in Columbus, Kansas, while he was home on leave from the Navy.   They lived in Pensacola, Florida, until his tour of duty expired, and then moved back home to Commerce, Oklahoma.   Don was offered a job at Bendix in Kansas City and moved his family to Harrisonville.  They were the parents of two daughters, Tela Carey Gough and Shelley Carey Jansen.

Carole retired in 1998 after more than 30 years as an administrative assistant in the Harrisonville school system.  She had been a member of Harrisonville First Christian Church for over sixty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.   She leaves her daughter Tela (Corey Hinrichs) Gough, Shelley (Steve) Jansen; grandchildren Sarah (Heath) Cummings, Eli (Jenny) Gough, Anna (Thomas) Ponder, and Leah (Alex) Burch; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Heath, and Lucas Cummings, Carter Cole, Henry Gough, and Tegan and Charly Byrd; great-great granddaughter Ashlyn Salisbury.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Dickey Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 7-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association
