David Ellis Bonar, 73, of Creighton, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2024, at St. Luke’s East Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was born on November 26, 1951, at Harrisonville, MO Hospital, the son of Everett and Mary Lee (Sites) Bonar.
David was united in marriage to Raye Ann (Cole) Bonar on February 18, 1978, in Higginsville, MO, by Pastor Jack Daniels. Their marriage of 46 years was filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
David was a proud U.S. Air Force Reserve retiree, having also served in the Army after being drafted in 1971. In his later years, he focused on his passion for farming, raising beef cattle, and creating a life rooted in the Missouri countryside. David’s love for the land and his work on the farm were matched only by his love for his family and his community.
David was preceded in death by his father, Everett Clark Bonar; his mother, Mary Lee Bonar; his sister, Betty Lou Bonar Grable; and his son, Jeremy Clark Bonar.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Raye Ann (Cole) Bonar, of the home in Creighton, MO; his son, Brandon Bonar, of Creighton, MO; his partner, Fernando Gonzalez; his sister, Gladys Mae (Bonar) Poisal; five like-grandchildren, Trenton Helm, Klaira & Kora Lynn Merriman, Riley & KP Streicher; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a wide circle of friends.
David had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed spending time on the farm, checking his cows, and taking scenic drives with Raye Ann as they traveled across the countryside. He made it a point to visit every state, collecting rocks from each place to add to his cherished rock garden.
David also had a love for classic cars, and his pride and joy included a 1972 black Monte Carlo and a 1965 gold Impala, which he enjoyed.
David’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His love for his family, his work ethic, and his sense of adventure will be fondly remembered.
