David Grant Spinning, 79, Garden City Missouri died Monday December 16th 2024 at home. David was born September 21st 1945 in Garden City Missouri, the son of Grant F Spinning and Mary Lou (Amos) Spinning. David was a 1963 graduate of the Garden City High school. David married Barbara Jean Holt on June 4th 1967 at Hickory Grove Baptist church. He was a lifelong Garden City Missouri resident.
David worked 22 years at Anaconda Ericsson as a machine operator and maintenance man until they closed their doors. After that he worked as a maintenance man for the Harrisonville School district for 12 years until he had to go on disability in 2000. He built some of the display cabinets that are still standing in the Harrisonville schools today.
David liked to hunt, fish, canoe, and he especially liked going 4 wheeling in Colorado with Terry and Lela Highley. He also liked to build things such as china cabinets, bird houses, and shelving for different people. He was a great woodworker among many other talents. He built the house that he lived in for 44 years. He also loved to take the grandkids camping and canoeing, sledding and spending time outside with them riding the four wheeler, picking strawberries and having weenie roasts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ann Jones, his brother, Dan Spinning, and his only child, Douglas Spinning. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara, of the home. His grandchildren, Kasey Parker, Arkansas City, KS, Sean Spinning, Lenexa KS, Taylor Smith (Nick) Oak Grove, MO and Braycen Manning, Lee’s Summit, MO. His great-grandchildren, Kynzlee, Jayse and Kamryn Smith, Oak Grove, MO. His brother in laws, James Holt (Ginger), Harrisonville, MO, Richard Holt, (Betty), Warsaw, MO, Robert Jones (Barbara), Freeman, MO and his sister in law, Georgia Gilmore, Clinton, MO. He is also survived by Kasey, Taylor & Braycen’s mother, Bessa, whom he thought of as a daughter, plus many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2024 at Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2024 at Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri with Interment at Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Croix Hospice and send in care to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.
