Dolores Ann Davis, age 89, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospice House on Thursday, January 11, 2024 following a brief hospital stay. Dolores, the eldest of nine children born to Charles and Anna Prettyman, was born near Bucyrus, KS on June 9, 1934. She played basketball at Stillwell High School. After leaving home upon graduation, Dolores moved into a boarding house in Kansas City, MO, where she met a handsome man who had just finished his tour as a Marine. His name was Darrell W. Davis and he didn’t have a chance! They fell in love and were married on January 23, 1954. Darrell and Dolores were blessed with 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. They were Members of Ruskin Heights Baptist, Swope Park Baptist, Red Bridge Baptist, and Pleasant Ridge Baptist Churches, where they both sang in the church choirs. Dolores worked in Sales at Torotel in Grandview for many years, as a secretary at Spofford Home, Harrisonville Christian School, and J Harold Smith Realty in Harrisonville prior to retirement. Darrell and Dolores and their children lived in the KCMO area until moving to Harrisonville, MO, where they lived for more than 40 years. Among Dolores’ hobbies were scrapbooking, cooking, reading, and singing. She was also a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and the Red Hat Society.
Dolores is survived by son Darrell Bruce Davis(Claudia) of NKC, daughters Denise Elizabeth Davis of KCMO and Dawn Annette Foy of Grandview, MO, son-in-law William McHenry of KCMO, grandchildren, Valerie Maynard (Mike), Zane DavLight (Caroline), Reo Davis (Jasmine), Kieth Tate, Dwayne Tate, Tadeo Davis (Cynthia), Bernarda Davis, Spencer Byers (Sarah), Mariana Santos (Marcos), Maya Foy, and Jericho Davis and great-grandchildren, Adeline, Ignacio, Azlan, Zion, Ari, and Lucy…
Dolores was preceded in death by husband Darrell, her parents, Charles and Anna Prettyman, brothers Larry Prettyman and Charles (Bud) Prettyman, sister Mary Ham, daughter Dixie Vanessa McHenry, and sons-in-law Vern Byers and Jimmy Foy.
Services will be held at the Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO with Visitation on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 2-4 and Funeral Services on Monday, January 22, at 2:00 pm with burial at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to City Union Mission, the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Association, or the Jimmy Foy Memorial Scholarship in care of the Dickey Funeral Home, P.O.
