Don Westley Hedges of Butler, Missouri, was born April 30, 1911 near Butler the son of the John Franklin and Lula Elvira (Stayton) Hedges. He departed this life Friday, December 15, 2006 at Adrian Manor Nursing Home, Adrian at the age of 95 years, 7 months and 15 days.
On, February 21, 1934 Don was united in marriage to Edythe Necessary and later married Ruby Cordelia (Sides) Lethcho on January 12, 1957 in Archie, Missouri. On January 12, 2007 they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Don was a farmer and stockman until his retirement in July of 1999. He earlier had run an egg route in Kansas City, Missouri for 25 years. He was a longtime member of the Austin Baptist Church where he was baptized in 1958. He later transferred his membership to the First Baptist Church, Butler, Missouri in 2002. Don was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was an outdoors person, especially fishing and deer hunting with his nephew, Gary Hall. Don enjoyed going to the sale barn and Wednesday morning coffee at Wal-Mart in Butler. He had lived in the Austin Community near Archie before moving to Butler in 1999.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by
four brothers, Paul, Claude, Leroy and Loyed, a sister, Goldie Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby C. Hedges of the home; a step-son, David Lethcho and wife, Betty, Fontana, Kansas; a daughter, Dora Devencenzi and husband, Bill, Haywood, California; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; four step-granddaughters; eight step-great grandchildren; a brother, Buford Hedges, Fremont, Nebraska; a sister, Alice M. Harr, Green Valley, Arizona; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with interment in the Austin Cemetery near Archie, Missouri.
Family suggests contriburtions may be made to the Austin Baptist Church memorial fund, Archie, Missouri or to Gideon International.
