Donald Coleman of Harrisonville, Missouri was born December 20, 1924 in Peculiar, Missouri the son of Clarence and Mary Leta (Dinkle) Coleman. He departed this life on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 89 years and 23 days.
On December 25, 1949, Donald was united in marriage to Barbara Octova Barnard in Peculiar, Missouri.
Donald was employed as a transporter for Allied Signal, Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Coleman Baptist Church near Peculiar, a Navy veteran of World War II, Grand River Masonic Lodge #276 AF & AM, Freeman, Missouri and the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local #778, Kansas City, Missouri. Donald was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family. He had lived in Peculiar and Lakeland, Florida before moving to Harrisonville in 2004.
Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on June 25, 2008; his two brothers, Clarence “Sam” and Harry Coleman.
Donald is survived by his two daughters, Vicki Sue Tillery, Wildwood, Missouri, Marcia Penyock and husband, Steve, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; five grandchildren, Ron Messick, Kimberly Miller, Megan Eads and husband, Bill, Eric Penyock and wife, Emily, Lindsey Mravunac and husband, Anthony; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Messick, Lana Smith and Paul Penyock; other relatives and a host of friends.
A Masonic service was held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri under the auspices of the Grand River Masonic Lodge #276 A.F. & A.M., Freeman, Missouri with the funeral to follow immediately the Masonic service with interment in Wills Cemetery near Peculiar, Missouri.
