Donald Lee Wise of Garden City, Missouri passed away May 6, 2009, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born July 8, 1926, on a farm near Archie, MO, to John B. and Elsie Burns Wise.
In 1942, the family moved to Stockton, CA, where he worked in the Cannery?s. In 1945, he came back to Missouri. On June 14, 1946, Don married Mary Bell Gloyd and they moved to the family farm near Dayton where they lived for 26 years. In 1972, they moved to Osage Beach, where Don worked in the construction business. They later moved to Claremore, OK, where Donald worked as a carpenter. In 1989, Don and Mary moved to Garden City where they lived in senior housing for the past 20 years. Don and Mary were able to celebrate their 40th, 50th, and 60th anniversaries with family and friends.
Don loved hunting and was an avid fisherman. He loved reading his bible and his Christian literature. Donald enjoyed playing the harmonica for his grandchildren and later for his great-grandchildren. They were dear to his heart.
Preceding him in death was his grandson, Ritchie Lee McMechan; parents, Sam Longacre (step-father) and Elsie Wise Longacre and John and Edwin Wise (step-mother); step-sister, Bobbie Tschudi; and brother, Bill Wise.
Don is survived by his wife Mary of the home; two daughters, Connie Conner and husband, Charlie, Olathe, KS; Lea Ann Powell and husband, Leary, Camdenton, MO; two sons, Dewayne and John Wise, Independence, MO; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: Chad Wise and wife, Melissa, Alexandria, VA; Randy McMechon and wife, Melissa, KCKS; Shawn Wise and wife, Elizabeth, their three children Dawson, Austin, and Emma, Blue Springs; Michelle Moss and her children Brittany and McKenzie, Pennsylvania; Amy Durso and husband, Brian, their three children, Kolton, Kaden, and Kara Dawn, KCMO; Brent Powell, Harrisonville, and his son, Dustin, Lake Ozark, MO; Brandi Wise and her children, Kaylee and Ryan, Cheyenne, WY; Joe Wise and his children, Alyssa and Gage, Republic, MO; Amber, Jana, and Josh Wise, Larned, KS; Shane Wise, Warrensburg; one great-great grandchild, Ryan Moss; two step-grandsons, Jeff and James Conner; a sister-in-law, Villea Wise; and a step-sister, Yvonne Reitz.
