Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Rucker of Harrisonville, Missouri was born March 4, 1920 in Decatur, Illinois the daughter of Herman Paul and Hedwig Martha (Behrend) Ammann. She departed this life on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 28 days.
On May 11, 1968, Dorothy was united in marriage to William Miller Rucker in Decatur, Illinois.
Dorothy was a beautician for Jacque’s Beauty Shop in Rantoul, Illinois from 1965 until her retirement in 1978 and during WW2 she was employed in an ammunition plant in Decatur, Illinois. During the depression years she quit school to help support her family. Dorothy was a standout softball player in her younger years and enjoyed playing the organ, walking, reading the bible daily and listening to CNN. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Raymore, Missouri and had lived in Rantoul, Illinois before moving to Mesa, Arizona in 1972 and to Harrisonville in 1997. Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sorely missed.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William on September 30, 1996; 3 brothers, Paul, Donald, Howard Ammann and a son-in-law, Donald Bearden.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sandra A. Bearden, Harrisonville, Missouri; 2 grandsons, Kevin Bearden and wife, Cheryl, Harrisonville, Missouri, Daren Bearden and wife, Tammy, Peculiar, Missouri; 5great-grandchildren; Ashley, Brett, Emma, Alex and Sydney; a sister, Loretta Moore, Phoenix, Arizona; other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 310 Johnston Parkway, Raymore, Mo. Dorothy was buried next to her husband in Mesa, Arizona.
The family requests no flowers and memorial contributions be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dorothy’s name.
