Dorothy Frances Foster of Harrisonville, Missouri was born on November 2, 1917 the daughter of Franklin Harrison and Barbara Ellen (Veach) Gilkeson on a farm about 3 miles west of Garden City, Missouri. She was the oldest of seven children, Donald, Howard, twins Robert and Roberta, Jeff and Clarence. Dorothy departed this life Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at her home in Harrisonville at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 23 days. On May 2, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to James Donald Foster in Los Angeles, California while Don was in the service.
Dorothy was a homemaker and earlier was employed in Civil Service. She attended Sugar Creek rural school through 8th grade and was a 1935 graduate of Garden City High School. She was a faithful member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Quilting Group all of Harrisonville. Dorothy visited her church family in times of need and was caring, thoughtful and kind to help others. Her cherry pie was a favorite to many and her kindness will be missed. She was a favorite to her nieces and nephews. Dorothy had lived in Merriam, Fort Scott and Pratt, Kansas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. After her husband's retirement they moved to Pomme de Terre Lake, near Pittsburg, Missouri before moving to Harrisonville in 1987.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Don on October 28, 1990; an infant son, James Michael Foster and three brothers, Don, Howard and Robert.
She is survived by her son, Steven D. Foster of the home; two brothers, Bill Jeff Gilkeson, Harrisonville, Missouri, Clarence Gilkeson, Des Monies, Iowa; a sister, Roberta Allen, Garden City, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
