Dorothy L. Dechman

Dorothy Louise Dechman of Creighton, Missouri was born September 15, 1923 in Forrest City, Arkansas the daughter of James D. and Lela (Hynds) Thomas. She departed this life on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 3 days.
On September 8, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ted Dechman Jr. in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Dorothy was a seamstress employed at the Garden City Garment Factory from 1961 until 1982 and at the Holden Manufacturing Company, Holden, Missouri until her retirement in December of 1989. She earlier had been employed as a bus driver for the Creighton and Urich School Districts. She was a member of the Creighton Christian Church and the Ladies? Garment Workers Union. Dorothy had enjoyed going on motorcycle tours until the age of 75. She was an avid sports fan for the Royals, Chiefs, NASCAR and Missouri Tigers. Dorothy had moved to Creighton in 1959.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and J.D. Thomas; two sisters, Margaret Davidson and Lamar Thomas.
She is survived by a son Ray Dechman and wife, Nila, Oak Grove, Missouri; four daughters, Karen L. Doll and husband, Jerry, Urich, Missouri, Sharon Sellens, Kansas City, Missouri, Carolyn L. Orr, Gladstone, Missouri, Marilyn L. Gray, Bagnell, Missouri; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three nephews, Ghyrane, Galan and Glenn Davidson; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Burial Wadesburg Cemetery near Creighton, Missouri.
Family will receive friends Monday, April 20, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family suggest that memorial contributions can be made to the Creighton Senior Housing.
