Dorothy Mae Hetherington, of Peculiar, Missouri, was born December 16, 1929 in Deepwater, Missouri the daughter of William H. and Mildred M. (Parks) Lewis. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 14 days.
On June 30, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ralph Earl Hetherington in Clinton, Missouri. They lived in the Clinton area before moving to Peculiar where they both lived with their two children Larry D. Hetherington and Mary S. Hetherington.
Dorothy retired from two different companies, AT&T and PPG industries. She was a lady who could not sit still so in her retirement years she worked several different jobs around town. Dorothy loved quilting. She spent many hours working on her beautiful pieces of art. Dorothy also enjoyed canning so much that she taught her daughter-in-law, Linda, everything she knew. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, camping and spending time with her grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Hetherington Jr. on January 14, 1992; a daughter, Mary Sue Hetherington on December 24, 2008; two brothers, Charles and LeRoy Lewis and a sister, Nellie Headrick.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Larry D. Hetherington and wife Linda, Harrisonville, Missouri; 3 grandsons, Larry D. Hetherington Jr. and wife Nichole, Warsaw, Missouri, Brian W. Hetherington and wife Charla, and Clint A. Hetherington all of Harrisonville, Missouri; 6 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Taylor, Austin, Colter, Ashley and Anne Marie; 3 brothers, Marvin Lewis, Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Billy Dean Lewis and wife Linda, Scott City, Kansas, Edgar Lee Lewis, Clinton, Missouri; 4 sisters, Anna Lee James, Adrian, Missouri, Ethel Lewis, Hilltop Lake, Texas, Martha Minks, Kansas City, Missouri, Helen Hatfield and husband Edwin, Clinton, Missouri; sister-in-law, Anita Lewis, Lincoln, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was a true guardian Angel of this family and she will always be loved and missed so much.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial is in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.
