Douglas J. Manning

Douglas John Manning, 76, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on March 3, 2025. Born on April 23, 1948, in Rickmansworth, England, Douglas was the beloved son of John and Joan Manning. In 1952, he immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island, beginning a lifelong journey of hard work, love, and dedication to his family.

Douglas graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri, in 1967. He later moved to New Mexico, where he helped run his family’s motel before returning back to Kansas City. It was here that he met the love of his life, Judy. They married and built a beautiful life together, sharing 47 years of love, laughter, and family. Doug worked as a Sales Manager for Paulo Products for over 40 years. Doug and Judy were devoted members of the First Christian Church of Harrisonville. In April 2017, Douglas fulfilled a longtime goal by becoming a U.S. citizen, a milestone that filled him with great pride.

Douglas is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Manning; his children, Della Booher (Joie), Thomas Manning (Hillary), and Sandra Hickey (Dan); his stepchildren, Andrea Matranga and Darin Matranga; his sister, Baryl Ann Griego (Max); and his brother, Lester Manning. He was a cherished grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joan Manning, and his brother, Russell Manning.

Douglas was a man of quiet strength, deep love for his family, and an incredible sense of humor. His journey from England to the United States was a testament to his resilience, and his commitment to those he loved never wavered. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
