Earl Victor Ervin, 85, of Warrensburg, formerly of Gunn City and Riverside, was born, Thursday, January 5, 1928, on the family farm near Gunn City, the son of Lloyd and Francis (Strack) Ervin. He departed this life at 6:10 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, with Tim, Lynne, Donna Kaye, and Matthew by his side.
He was a United States Army World War II Veteran, where he earned a Bronze Star. He had also served in the United States Navy prior to his service in the Army.
Earl worked 35 years as a mechanic for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) in Riverside. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association-Whittington Center, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed teaching his nieces and nephews how to go camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking and making his own BBQ sauce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Donald Gene and Mary E. (Barnard) Ervin; and a nephew Jimmy Constance.
Earl is survived by his sister Betty Constance of Independence; one nephew Timothy (and Lois) Ervin of Strasburg; three nieces, Lynne (and Matthew) Liley, Donna Kaye Wendel of Pleasant Hill, and Loretta (and Caleb) Haansz of Sibley; several Great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the Stanley-Dickey funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Inurnment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with Full military honors at a later date.
The family will receive friends 2:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
