Ruby Elizabeth Yoder was born on December 10, 1916. She was the 4th child of Levi Franklin Yoder and Anna Mae (Raber) Yoder. Elizabeth left this life for her heavenly home on August 19, 2012.
Elizabeth attended grade school at Smith School where at one point her teacher was her older sister Eula. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1936.
She was united in marriage with Walter Lewis Yoder at her family home, five miles North of Garden City, Missouri on November 2, 1940.
She and Walter served in Civilian Public Service (CPS) in Fort Collins, Colorado, and later in Cleveland, Ohio. While in Cleveland she received her nurses’ aide certification from the Chicago School of Nursing. After the war was over they settled back in Cass County, Missouri.
Their home was blessed with two sons Calvin, Willard and a daughter Linda. She was a busy farm wife, raising chickens and helping Walter with his butchering business. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, quilting, and flower arranging. Her beautiful flower beds were always well kept and her flowers often graced the front of the Church. She was a member of the ELCO Garden Club.
Elizabeth accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her early teens and was baptized at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church where she was a lifelong member. She was active in the church as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Good News Club leader and was part of WMSC, the ladies quilting circle.
She and Walter were instrumental in beginning the annual MCC sale and the tradition of apple butter making. They also helped plant the Evening Shade Mennonite Church near Warsaw, MO which required them to travel there every other Sunday for several summers.
Walter and Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with their family and friends singing, traveling, or just over a big bowl of homemade ice cream. Music was very important to Elizabeth and the family often sang together. For many years she enjoyed singing with the Garden City Community Easter Cantata. She and Walter traveled from coast to coast with family and friends, frequenting Springdale, Arkansas for a gospel sing, Silver Dollar City, and several International Barbershop Conventions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother Harold Yoder and wife Louise, sister Eula and husband Alpha Yoder, sister Marie Yoder, and daughter- in- law Mary R. Yoder.
Elizabeth is survived by sons Calvin Yoder and wife Michelle, Willard Yoder and wife Velma, of Garden City, MO; daughter, Linda Kaiser and husband Duane of Durham, KS; eight grandchildren, Wes Yoder and wife Kate, Gwen Meeks and husband Chris, Cindy Yoder, Mindy Yoder, Daniel Yoder and wife Talashia, Emily Yoder, Megan Wengerd and husband Brandon, and Anna Yoder; and six great-grandchildren, Ellie and Matt Yoder, Jacquelyn, Cameron and Jillian Meeks; and Malachi Yoder; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
