Mrs. Elsie Alma ""Alice"" Courtney of Garden City, Mo. was born October 20, 1918 in Canon, Mo. the daughter of Edward and Mary Ellen (White) Branson. She departed this life Saturday, October 11, 2008 at her daughter's home in Independence, Mo. at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 21 days.
On January 2, 1937, Elsie was united in marriage to Ernest D. Simmermon in Lexington, Mo. Later, Elsie was united in marriage to Ross Courtney on August 30, 1957 in Independence.
Elsie was employed as a Certified Nurse's Assistant for Pleasant View Nursing Home, Harrisonville, Mo until her retirement. She was a member of New Covenant Fellowship, Garden City where she was a member of the Jolly 60's and a volunteer for the Training Center. Earlier, Elsie was a Sunday School teacher and Missionette Leader for Brother Grimes' church. She enjoyed her family, and will be remembered as a good mother who cared for her family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Courtney on December 15, 1990.
She is survived by one son, Richard Simmermon, Holt, Mo.; six daughters, Betty Morgan, Belton, Mo., Mildred Powell, Yuciapa, Ca., Wanda Ford and Sandra Cook, Independence, Mo., Ross Ann Courtney, Garden City, Mo., Alice West, Archie, Mo; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Community Blood Center, Kansas City, Missouri.
