Fayla Hoover

August 4, 1922 — December 6, 2011

Fayla Marie(Crust) Hoover of Garden City, Mo., was born August 4, 1922, near Urich, Mo., the daughter of William Alexander and Ida Ann(Morlan)Crust. She departed this life on December 6, 2011, at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, MO, at the age of 89 years 4 months and 2 days.
Fayla left home in 1936 at the age of 14 and went to Kansas to live with some family members. At the age of 18, she was a maid for a Jewish family in Kansas City. She left there and went to St. Joseph where she was married to Lowell Wheeler Cook and worked at the Pony Express Bar in the Rubidoux Hotel. After her son, Bill, was born, she moved back home. Fayla was a good mom and always did right by her son. She was always there to support him in his endeavors, right or wrong. They moved back to Kansas City in 1952 and lived there until 1958 when they returned to Garden City where she opened a store called Spot to Shop in the old Farrel Kimberlin building on Main Street. Following that she worked in the food service and restaurant business until she retired in 1970, when her and her mother moved to Humansville to live until her mother passed. After that she moved back to Cass County and worked in the family business, Cook’s Market, with her sister, Norma Roberts, and her grandchildren.
Fayla was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking and serving others. She had a heart that was always willing to help someone. She was a diligent worker and had various positions during her lifetime. She had a close relationship with her Savior and was ready to meet him.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Don, L.A., and Delbert Crust; two sisters, Mabel Burt and Norma Roberts; and two great granddaughters Savannah Filer and Charlie Cook.
She is survived by a son, William (Bill) Cook and wife, Emily, Garden City, Mo; two grandsons Mike Cook and wife Fran, Harrisonville, MO, Scott Dickey and wife Beth, Virginia Beach, VA; and two granddaughters Kelly Filer and husband Chris, Harrisonville, Mo, and Jeanne Middaugh and husband Chad, Garden City, MO; 11 great grandchildren; Maxx, Will, Daphne, and Zack Cook; Jacob, Lucas, and Gracie Filer; Arden and Miles Middaugh; Rachel and Megan Dickey, and great-great grandson Jackson, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at "The Farm" near Garden City, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at "The Farm".
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri.
