Gene Allen McCalmon, of Garden City, Missouri, formerly of Blairstown, Missouri was born July 25, 1926 near Quick City, Missouri the son of Ray Harrison and Eula (Streight) McCalmon. He departed this life on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 13 days.
On November 15, 1951, Gene was united in marriage to Wanda Irene Fisher in Harrison, Arkansas.
Gene owned and operated Mac’s Feed and Produce, Blairstown. Later he drove a Mobile Oil Bulk Truck, ran a fescue business and helped at the Rick Anstine Auction Company, Kingsville, Missouri. While he worked all these jobs, he was a farmer and raised cattle. Gene was an Army veteran of World War II and was Mayor of Blairstown for several years. He was a member of the Lions Club and American Legion Post #371, Urich, Missouri, the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #548, Clinton, Missouri and was a Shriner. Gene enjoyed going to the lake, water skiing, camping, shooting pool, hanging out at the K-7 Diner in Urich, Missouri and eating supper at the Rockin’ C in Garden City. He was known as a grill master and his specialty was ribs.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda McCalmon on December 26, 2009 and an infant son.
Gene is survived by a son, Kevin McCalmon and wife Jennifer, Olathe, Kansas; three daughters, Gayla Holliger and husband Michael, Kansas City, Missouri, Brenda K. Cox and husband Merl, Gainsville, Missouri, Ann McCalmon, Urich, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Trevor, Andrea, Jason, Kayla, Rachel, Justin, Meredith and Owen; 3 great-grandchildren, Merrik, Mason and Adelyn; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Blairstown Cemetery, Blairstown, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Blairstown Cemetery Assocation.
