George Earl James

November 28, 1950 — December 14, 2009

George Earl James of Urich, Missouri was born November 28, 1950 the youngest of seven children to Willie and Bertha (Ruby) James at Wetzel Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. After the loss of his parents at an early age, he was raised by his eldest brother and wife, Robert and Anna Lee James. He departed this life on Monday, December 14, 2009 at his home near Urich at the age of 59 years and 16 days.
On December 3, 1971, George was united in marriage to Deanna Kay Jenkins the daughter of Ray William and Anna Perry Jenkins at the Urich Baptist Church.
George was employed as a maintenance mechanic for Kansas City Power and Light at the Montrose Station from December of 1971 until his retirement in 2006. In 1969, George joined the United States Marine Corps serving in Vietnam and the Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1971. He was a member of the American Legion Post 371, Urich Lion?s Club, Lucas Lime Lighter, 4-H, Urich Reunion, Sherwood Grad Night and coached baseball in Urich. He received his Eagle Scout award in 1967. George was a 1969 graduate of Clinton High School. He enjoyed working after school at Dog N Suds and Sam?s Department Store both in Clinton. George was baptized and was a member of the First Christian Church in Clinton. George enjoyed woodcrafts, hunting, fishing and his grandchildren. He was especially fond of this granddaughter, Morgan who became more like a daughter than a granddaughter to him. He was so blessed by her.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Ed and Dean James; two sisters, Kate Kampe and Ellen Moreland.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna K. James of the home, a son, Michael W. James and Cara, Raytown, Missouri; a daughter, Andrea Smetana and husband, Wayne, North Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Morgan, and Isabella, and two step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Devon; a sister, Mary Lou Bockman, Marshall, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation. A Celebration Of Life Services were held Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggest memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, Missouri.
