Harvey 'Bud' Monroe, Jr.

June 24, 1928 — February 8, 2017

Harvey Francis “Bud” Monroe, Jr., 88, of Raymore, formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born, June 24, 1928, in Kansas City, the son of Harvey F. and Daisy S. (Chandler) Monroe, Sr. He departed this life, Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Foxwood Springs Care Center.
Bud attended and graduated from the Mark Twain School in Kansas City at an early age. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy, proudly serving as a Fireman on the USS Antietam, USS Yog, and the USS Comstock. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.
On July 22, 2000, he was united in marriage to Janice (Coates) Norman in Belton.
Bud was employed as a Union Truck Driver for ABF for 40 years retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering around on his small farm near Pleasant Hill. He was a member of the Teamster Union Local #41 and the Pleasant Hill Big Creek Baptist Church.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and 7 half brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife Janice of Raymore; three children; Patricia A. Icenhouer of Gladstone; Harvey Monroe, III of Blue Spring’s, and Thomas Monroe of Smithville; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by 2 stepchildren, Michael Norman of Belton and Robert (and Priscilla) Norman of Peculiar; 9 step grandchildren; 9 step great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Pastor Todd MacLean will officiate. Graveside military services and interment will follow in the Staley Mound Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy and the V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers are Harvey Monroe III, Jamie Monroe, Thomas Monroe, Mike Norman, Sam Parisa, and Randy Webb.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Big Creek Baptist Church Building fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
