Hazel Ellen Coe

Mrs. Hazel Ellen (Gerdts) Coe, of Garden City, Missouri, was born May 9, 1914 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Milton and Martha (Thorp) Jenkins. She departed this life Wednesday, June 25, 2008, Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 16 days.
On February 25, 1933, Hazel was united in marriage to Irvin Claus Gerdts in Lincoln, Missouri. Later she was united in marriage to Robert E. Coe on December 12, 1970 in Grandview, Missouri.
Hazel was homemaker. She was a charter member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grandview, Missouri where she help establish the Tabitha Group and was past president of the LWML in the church. Hazel had a great love for her family and will be dearly missed by them. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and celebrating her birthday with her traditional birthday dinner of pizza and beer. Hazel had lived in Grandview and Pleasant Hill, Missouri before moving to Garden City in 1999.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Irvin C. Gerdts on May 8, 1966; her second husband, Robert E. Coe on November 9, 1971; a daughter, Martha ""Marty"" Rayl; a son, Milton L. Gerdts; 6 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Donald E. Gerdts Sr. and wife, Trish and Kenneth L. Gerdts and wife Kay all of Grain Valley, Missouri; two daughters, Judy K. Meins and husband, Ron, Garden City, Missouri, Betty ""B.J."" Burch and husband Phil, Kansas City, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren. . Funeral services were held Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grandview, Missouri with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Garden City Friendship Meals or the Good Shepherd Hospice.
