Helen Elizabeth Johnson-Anderson-Burgard of Garden City, Missouri was born February 22, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri the fourth child of Carl Albin and Inez Wilamenia (Holmgren) Johnson. She departed this life on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 24 days.
Helen grew up in Kansas City until she was 10 years old. During the Great Depression her family moved to Bates County, Missouri. Her elementary education was attended in one room country schools, finishing her secondary education at Merwin High School in 1942.
On July 24, 1942, she was united marriage to Ray Russell Anderson of Drexel, Missouri. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Garden City, Missouri and began farming. Helen was widowed in August of 1960. In October of 1969, she was united in marriage to Cleo Burgard of Kansas City.
Helen was baptized in the Broadway Church in Kansas City as a child and later became a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City, Missouri and also the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church of Garden City. Helen was a woman with a strong faith in her Lord Jesus. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to many.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Russell Anderson on August 25, 1960; her second husband, Cleo Burgard on July 2, 2007; two brothers, William and Robert Johnson; a sister, Lucille Vogeler.
Helen is survived by three duaghters, Marlene E. Zygmontowicz (Edward), Marilyn R. Davis (Larry) and Vicki L. Anderson; 3 granddaughters, Lynn M. Marsh (Steve), Amanda R. Davis (Matt Guillory) and Stacy L. Orf (Tim); 6 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan, Christian and Ellie Marsh, Iva Hoskins and Madeline Orf; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Garden City, Missouri.
