Helen Graves

Mrs. Helen Elaine Graves, of Independence, Missouri, was born August 31, 1922 in Harrisonville, Missouri the daughter of Charlie E. and Blanche (Sharper) Leslie. She departed this life Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the Hidden Lake Care Center, Raytown, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 17 days.
On September 29, 1946, Helen was united in marriage to Allen D. Graves in Stockton, California.
Helen was a homemaker. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen was also a great cook and the family will always remember the dinners that were always at 2:00 on Sunday. She was a member of the Glenwood Park Methodist Church, Independence. Helen grew up in Garden City, Missouri and graduated from the Garden City High School. She had lived in Kansas City, Missouri and Stockton, California before moving to Independence in 1951.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Graves on June 18, 1995; a brother, Hebert Leslie and a sister, Hariett Early.
She is survived by a son, David Graves, St. Joseph, Missouri; a daughter, Elaine Miller and husband Ted, Adrian, Missouri; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Leslie, Raytown, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
