Helen Robinson

June 29, 1910 — December 20, 2005

Mrs. Sara Helen Robinson, second child of John White Gray and Goldie Lee Reed Gray Hall was born June 29, 1910 on the family farm near Creighton, Missouri and passed away December 20, 2005 on her farm near Creighton.
She attended rural school at Bunker Hill in Bogard Township, Henry County, three years of high school at Creighton, Missouri, and graduated from Warrensburg Normal School with ten college hours. This enabled her to obtain a license allowing her to teach in a number of small towns and rural schools. In the 1939-1940 school year, she went to Raytown and taught a fourth grade class.
On March 22, 1940 at Dawn, Missouri, Helen married John Gourley Robinson, who preceded her in death on January 9, 1987. John and Helen had one daughter, Lois Robinson Cumpton who survives. Other survivors include a son-in-law, Marcus Cumpton, Creighton, Missouri; a grandson, John Cumpton and fiance Sarah Ferguson Galesburg, Kansas; granddaughter, Tammy Cumpton, Urich, Missouri; a great-granddaughter, Kristine Cumpton of Kansas; a sister-in-law, Frances Robinson Patrick, Urich, Missouri; two nephews and one niece; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and John, Jr. Gray; her step-father, ""Pop"" Hall; a step-brother and a step-sister.
Helen was active in her church, serving as elder and clerk of session to both the Creighton and Evangel Presbyterian Churches. For the larger church, she served as a delegate to Presbytery, the Presbyterian woman's organization, and Synod. She was active in many other civic and community organizations, including Retired Teachers, as she retired as a Reading Specialist for the Sherwood School District in 1976. In later years, Helen received the much enjoyment from her grandchildren, paying special attention to their performances in the Sherwood Band. Even in failing health, Helen found the energy to bend over her walker to toss balls to great-granddaughter, Kristine.
She leaves a void in the many lives she has touched.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Grant Cemetery near Creighton, Missouri.
