Herbert Wayne ""Herb"" Burton of Garden City, Mo. was born November 17, 1933 in Adrian, Mo. the son of Charles R. ""Bunt"" and Goldie May (Drury) Burton. He departed this life on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Lee's Summit Medical Center, Lee's Summit, Mo. at the age of 76 years and 13 days.
On June 27, 1995, Herb was united in marriage to Lela Marie (Beasley) Doll in Miami, Ok.
Herb was employed as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service at the Garden City Post Office from 1964 until his retirement in 1992. He was a partner in Garden City Custom Dozing and enjoyed farming and cattle ranching. He was a member of the Heartland Baptist Fellowship, Harrisonville and a former member of the First Baptist Church, Garden City. Herb was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 498, Garden City and the N.R.A. Herb enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, bow hunting and playing 5 point pitch with his Dayton friends. He was a lifelong area resident of Garden City and the Dayton Community.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca on August 21, 1957.
He is survived by his wife, Lela Burton of the home; a son, Kyle Burton, Garden City, Mo.; a daughter, Debbie Burton, Cody, Wy.; a step-son, Bryan Doll, Garden City, Mo.; 2 grandchildren, Katelyn and Drake; 7 brothers, Tony Burton, Jerry Burton and Jimmie Burton all of Garden City, Mo., Jack Burton, Lane, Ks., Charles Burton, Odessa, Mo., Dennis Burton, Clinton, Mo., John Burton, Urich, Mo.; 2 sisters, Sandra Keck and Marcella Vogeler both of Garden City, Mo.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Baptist Fellowship Memorial Fund, Harrisonville, Missouri or to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, Missouri.
