Hobart Lee Jacobs, 88, passed peacefully on October 10th, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice House, in Kansas City, Missouri. Hobart was born near Settles Ford in Bates County, Missouri to Herbert and Ruthie Jacobs. Hobart was the eldest of the eight children in the family. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Kenneth Jacobs, Bob Jacobs and Donnie Jacobs. Hobart is survived by his wife Lorraine of their home in rural Peculiar, brothers Richard (Renee) Jacobs of Harrisonville and Charles Jacobs of Creighton and sisters Betty Leon of Blue Springs and Mary Ann Cox of Urich. Hobart also has two children Pam (Brett) Wilson of Gardner, Ks and Mike Jacobs of Peculiar. Pam and Brett have two daughters, Amanda (Chris) Newburg of Gardner, Kansas and Mary Wilson of Kansas City, Kansas. Mike has two daughters, Alexa and Courtney.

Hobart enjoyed a wonderful family, many hobbies (boats, tractors, horses, Sudoku, DIY repair, wood working and building projects) and a great career in engineering, helping design power plants all over the U.S. and the World. Hobart, after graduating Creighton High School in 1954 joined the U.S. Army and served as a mechanic at Fort Riley, Kansas. At the end of his Army service in 1957, Hobart attended the University of Missouri, Columbia where obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1960, Hobart married Lorraine Roberts, daughter of Howard and Dorothy Roberts of rural Henry County, Missouri and soon afterwards Hobart accepted a job with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) building dams and power plants. The young Jacobs family lived in Russellville, Kentucky and also in Knoxville, Tennessee before moving back to Kansas City where Hobart started a new opportunity with Black and Veatch Engineering. Hobart retired from Black and Veatch with 35 years of employment in 1999.

Hobart always had many interesting stories about his military service, time spent with the TVA and at Black and Veatch. But Hobart was always first a son, a brother, an uncle, a father and a grandfather. Routinely, Hobart would spend time with his mother, Ruthie and also with his brothers and sisters at Ruthies home in Creighton as often as possible, this was a family tradition. Hobart also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, going to their school and church functions when possible.

Hobart also loved his animals, his dog Buster (deceased) and his cat Henri (still lives at the home). Hobart and Lorraine also enjoyed watching the many deer that would eat in their backyard most evenings. Hobart and Lorraine also spent most weekends tending to their horse and horse barn in rural Clinton, Mo. This was the old Roberts Barn on MO 18 Highway.

Hobart was a dedicated family man and an active member of the Grandview United Methodist Church. He was there for his family offering support, guidance and love. Hobart was soft spoken and could just make you feel welcome and wanted.

Hobart’s cremated remains will be laid to rest at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Business Highway 13, in Higginsville, Missouri on November 15th at 2:00 P.M.
