Ivan Lee Cumpton, of Dayton, Missouri was born January 6, 1947 the son of Guy Dorven & Georgia Marie (Brown) Cumpton in Dayton.
Ivan spent his early years in Dayton, Missouri and attended the Dayton School for 8 years and then entered High School in Archie, Missouri where he completed his graduation in 1965. At a young age the Cumpton boys began hauling hay for farmers all around the areas. They created contests to see who could toss the most, the highest, or the fastest. Ivan's Mom and Dad raised the boys to be hard workers. They had several International trucks over the years and hauled livestock to Kansas City or anywhere you needed a delivery as well as hauling water for lots of families in the area.
Ivan saved up his money and purchased a 1965 Chevrolet Impala from his Uncle Van-brand new and it was his pride and joy, which he still had to this day.
After graduation Ivan received his summon from the great Uncle Sam. He was inducted into the Army in 1966 and the home boy was sent across the seas to the jungles of Vietnam. He was on a slow moving barge and cooked 3 meals a day for the whole ship. While in the service he contracted hepatitis and spent 33 days in the Hospital, then was flown back to the United States.
In May of 1971 he married Sharon Swetnam of Clinton, Missouri and they moved to his parents farm just outside of Dayton, Missouri. He purchased a 10- wheeler and decided to broaden his traveling by going South to buy watermelons and bring them back to Missouri. That was the first great fiasco- they ended up spread all over the Oklahoma turnpike ! He then purchased a tractor Trailer-so began his real over the road trucking career. He loved his trucks and going fast.
Ivan loves family and always raced back to Dayton and everyone.
Many hours he spent playing with the little kids. He had the biggest smile and became a youngster again with them. Ivan was one of the biggest prankster you will ever meet. He was so full of life and enjoyed all of his family and friends.
