James C. Hammontree

James Cedar Hammontree, 64, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Thursday, July 24, 1947 in Chico, California, the son of Maurice Allen and Alice (Schmoll) Hammontree. He departed this life at 9:49 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the John Knox Village Hospice Center, Lee's Summit.
Jim was a 1966 Pleasant Hill High School graduate and a United States Navy Vietnam Era Veteran serving aboard the USS Dixon and USS Proteus.
On January 19, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Leigh Ash in Pleasant Hill.
Jim was employed as a Civil Engineering Designer for Burns & McDonnell retiring in 2003. He then went to work for the Boy Scouts of America in various volunteer compacities as well as a property maintenance director.
He was an active member the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church, Midwest Tool Collectors Association, La Cruces New Mexico Eagles, and former member of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club and the Kansas City Woodworkers Guild.
He was also a 53 year member of the Boy Scouts of America where he held every position in Troop 300 and various council positions. He was a Medicine Man with the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, bearing the name Silver Distant Fox.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Linda of the home; one son Wheeler Hammontree and his wife Kristin of Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; one daughter Josie Hermsmeyer and her husband Ryan of Wildwood, Missouri; two grandchildren Laurelin Hammontree and Morgan Hermsmeyer; other relatives and friends.
Cremation has been accorded.
Family and friends are invited to attend Tribal Mic-O-Say services at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church.
A Cracker Barrel will follow the service where the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America - H. Roe Bartle Reservation or The Pleasant Hill First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
