James Gerald Claunch of Garden City, Missouri was born February 27, 1933 the son of James Lee and Nellie (Boyles) Claunch. He departed this life on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 4 days.
On April 28, 1988, Jim was united in marriage to Elda H. Pulec in Miami, Oklahoma.
Jim was employed as a water tester for General Motors Leeds Plant, Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement on December 1, 1990. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, member of the UAW Local 93, Kansas City, the Johnson County Coon Hunters Association, Holden, Missouri, the American Redbone Coonhound Association and National Redbone Coonhound Association. James enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid coon and deer hunter and attended horse and draft pulls. He was a lifelong area resident.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Claunch in May of 2001; an infant son; a brother, Russell Claunch; a sister, Doris Roberts and two infant, sisters.
Jim is survived by his wife, Elda Claunch of the home; a daughter, Jean Ann Mendyke and husband, Mike, Greenforest, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Teresa Claunch and friend, Toby, Garden City, Missouri; 2 step-daughters, Karen Feldmann and husband, Brett, Smith Center, Kansas, Connie Marshoff and husband, John, St. Joseph, Missouri; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; 2 German granddaughters; a brother, Truman Claunch and wife, Bonnie, Wheatland, Missouri; a sister, Shirley Jarvis, Raytown, Missouri; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the funeral home.
