James Roberts

Ret. SSgt. James Rasho Roberts, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born February 23, 1936 in Bald Knob, Arkansas, the son of William Albert and Edna Mae (Williams) Roberts. He departed this life Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at his home near Harrisonville at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 27 days.
On November 25, 1970, James was united in marriage to Mary Eva Sammons in Harrisonville, Missouri.
James retired as a Staff Sergeant for United States Marine Corp after 20 years of service. He received many medals and certificates for good conduct for his service in the Vietnam War. After his service in the Marine Corp, James was employed by Jack Cooper Transport, Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren as well as other children and getting to ride his Harley Davidson with his sons. James loved drinking coffee and telling stories with the guys at the restaurant.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Lane Roberts on September 8, 1983 and seven siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Roberts of the home; three sons, Gene Roberts, Kansas City, Missouri, Rick Roberts and wife Chris and their three children, Ethan, Jordan and Colton, Harrisonville, Missouri, Bill Roberts and wife Kelly, Lee's Summit, Missouri; a daughter, Teresa Reed and husband Alan, and their three children, Jennifer, Shane and Melissa, Jacksonville, Florida; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Craddock, Rosie Elliot and husband, Charlie, all of Bald Knob, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
