James Shepard

August 3, 1926 — September 27, 2010

James Edward Shepard of Garden City, Missouri was born August 3, 1926 in Smithville, Missouri the son of Leslie Daniel and Epha Dora (Hess) Shepard. He departed this life on Monday, September 27, 2010 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 24 days.
On May 23, 1949, Jim was united in marriage to Merle White in Lamar County, Texas.
Jim was employed as a tool and die maker for Allied Signal, Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement in 1989. He served in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II, the Army during the Korea War and the Naval Reserve. He was a member of American Legion Memorial Post #498, Garden City. Jim enjoyed his family, grandchildren, the outdoors, woodworking and fishing. He had moved to Garden City in 1961.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Merle on June 11, 2009; a brother, Harold Shepard; a sister, Minnie Irby and a half-sister, Barbara Hart. He is survived by two sons, Eddie Shepard and wife, Jenny, Lincoln, Missouri, Steve Shepard and companion, Kathy, Osceola, Missouri; a daughter, Susan Pendleton and husband, Gerald, Archie, Missouri; six grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends
Celebration of Life Visitation was held Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Cremation.
