Jan George

Jan George

Jan Gaylene George, 68, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on April 11, 2023, unexpectedly.

Jan George was born on June 12, 1954, to Lena Faye and Loyal George in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduating from Sherwood High School in 1972, she went on to study Speech and Interpersonal Communications at the University of Central Missouri (formerly CMSU).

After graduation from college, Jan went to work for the Waldo Astoria Dinner Theater in Kansas City. Following an injury, Jan began traveling the country which included California, Arizona, Idaho and Vermont.  Those travels led her to a lifelong career in the travel industry. She got married twice along the way but ultimately decided her friends, family, and dogs were her lifelong companions. In 1995 Jan began her career with Tauck as a Tour Director and worked for them for 28 years.

Jan was a free spirit with deep ties to her heritage as a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation. She enjoyed traveling, writing, all genres of music, dancing and spending time with friends and family. She loved to spoil her niece and nephew's children and referred to them as her "great babies." Jan will be remembered for so many things--her infectious laugh, her “live in the moment” attitude, her smile, her adventurous spirit and just her overall love for life.

Jan was proceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sisters, Loy Ann George of Garden City, Missouri and Susan Rene Farr (Robert Farr) of Hallsville, Missouri, nephew Joe Farr of St. Charles, Missouri, "great babies" Lucas and Zoey Farr, niece Amy DeAngelo (Danny DeAngelo) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and "great babies" Maverick and Mila DeAngelo. Also survived by her beloved furry friend, Gypsy.

A Celebration of Life will be on April 22, 2023 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lee's Summit, MO at 11:00 am. The service will be informal with a time for family and friends to share favorite memories of Jan. Lunch will follow the service.

Because of Jan's love of music, another gathering is being planned for this summer.

Memorial contributions may be made to National Park Foundation and may be sent in care of Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box, Harrisonville, Missouri.
