Jewell Lee Meyer, aged 90, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024. Born on September 28, 1934, Jewell led a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and involvement in his community.

Jewell graduated from Creighton High School before enlisting in the US Navy from 1954 to 1957. During his service, he was stationed on the Bonhomme Richard aircraft carrier in the 6th fleet, where he specialized as a hydraulic mechanic on prop planes. His time in the Navy was a source of great pride and contributed to his lifelong commitment to veteran's organizations. Jewell continued his education at junior college after his service.

Professionally, Jewell had a long career at Armco Steel in the Shipping and Receiving department. He also shared his love for sports by being a soccer referee and a little league coach, influencing many young athletes. Jewell was deeply involved in his community, volunteering at the local Disabled American Veterans and American Legion posts. His hobbies included watching sports, NASCAR, trapping squirrels, hunting mushrooms, and maintaining ties to roots in the Henry County farming community.

Jewell was a devout member of Blue Ridge United Methodist Church and Woods Chapel Methodist Church, where he formed many lasting relationships and contributed to various Church activities.

Jewell was a fun-loving family man, married to Joyce Jean (Barnett) Meyer for 59 years. He is survived by his wife, children Troy Meyer (wife Christi) and Jodi Schrumpf (husband Ken), grandchildren Corey, Justin, Brooke (husband Shane), Abigail, Emily, and Allison, and great-grandchildren Elijah, Adler, and Callan. He also leaves behind his brother Gerald Meyer (wife Chris). Jewell was preceded in death by his siblings Betty Thomas, Kenneth Meyer, and Charles Meyer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jewell can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project via Dickey Funeral Home, an organization he passionately supported. Jewell's life was a testament to his values of family, service, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jewell’s life was truly rich and inspiring. He will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. 

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with interment at Urich Cemetery, Urich, Missouri.
