Jim D. Schupbach

Jimmy “Jim” Dee Schupbach left this life to be with our Lord and Savior on August 26th, 2024, at the age of 90 years and 21 days. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born August 5th, 1934, in Kirksville, MO., to father Myrl D. Schupbach and mother Helen (Taylor) Schupbach and was the eldest of two children, big brother to Karen. He spent his “growing up” years in the Kirksville area. As a teenager, he worked in the Ford Garage as a mechanic and enlisted in the Army Ranger Reserves for two years in High School. After High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on August 11, 1953, for four years and served in the Korean War as a Radar Specialist and Radio/equipment Repairman in the 4th Bomber Wing in Seoul and Kimpo, South Korea. He was honorably discharged August 10th, 1957 with the rank of Staff Sergeant and remained in the Reserves until March 9th, 1960.

After his military service, he worked at Bendix / Honeywell in Kansas City, MO., as an Engineering Electronic Technician. During this time, he met the love of his life, Gladys Marie McArthur, and they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 22nd, 1958. From this marriage three children were born; Randall Joe, Carmen Gayle, and Richard Scott. He spent his life loving and walking with the Lord. He loved Bible studies, the Lord’s church, and his Sunday School class. Jim loved his country and was a true Patriot. Most dear to his heart was family, and in his words, he “loved spending time with my wife and family”.

After 38 years of working at Bendix / Honeywell, Jim retired and wanted to stay busy, so he started a construction and landscaping business with his grandson, Josh Humbard, and enjoyed this endeavor for many years. Jim thought it was fun working on construction equipment, tractors, trucks, cars and any machinery with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed boating, camping, shooting skeet, and riding horses with his kids.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Myrl and Helen Schupbach, a brother-in-law, Robert Ralph “Bob” McArthur, and many other family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gladys, of the home; two sons, Randy Schupbach, Harrisonville, MO., and Richard “Rich” Schupbach (Sherry), Harrisonville, MO.; and a daughter, Carmen Matter (Rick), Archie, MO.; grandchildren Josh Humbard, Nicholas Matter, Max Matter (Cheyenne), Kevin Schupbach, Crystal Matter, Melanie Hutchinson, Richard Matter II, Scott Sloan, and Terry Sloan; and great-grandchildren Owen, Jakobe, Landon, London, Tionna, Jacob (Destiny), Morgan, Logan, and Evan. Jim is survived by a sister, Karen (Schupbach) Reynolds (Gerald) of Holt, MI., a brother-in-law Charles McArthur (Vivian) of Kirbyville, MO.; nieces Cathy Brown (Steve), Chris Prevo, Debby Kappler (Pete), Robyn Browning, Susan Jones, and Sherry Nichols; and nephews Steve McArthur (Julie), Mike McArthur (Alyx), David Sayers (Anastasia), Terry McArthur (Donna); and many other cousins, extended family, and friends.
