John Taber age 76, departed this life on August 22, 2014 surrounded by his family at Golden Years Rehabilitation Center, Harrisonville, MO.
John was born April 27, 1938 in Summersville, MO. Born to William Isacc Taber and Opal Anne Souders Taber. He was one of seventeen children. His siblings were Verna, Connie, Mary, Alvin, Calvin, Ida, and eleven half brothers and sisters.
John grew up in the Summersville area, and attended school in Arroll, MO. As a teenager, he went to Grand Lake, CO to work on the Hallsworth Horse Ranch. He always had fond memories of this time in his life, and he always loved horses.
On December 15, 1956 he was was united in marriage to Beverly Lee Howe, on the pastor’s porch on a cold December evening in Mountain View, MO. To this union four sons were born; William, Michael, Brian and Stanley.
In the early sixties, John and Bev moved to Kansas City, MO. In 1969, John moved his family to a farm outside of Rich Hill, MO where they lived and raised their sons for fifteen happy years. During that time, he commuted back and forth to the city for work. He worked for American Chair Rental, Manley Transfer, Jones and Heiman Freight. He retired from Teamster’s Union Local 41.
In 1983, the family moved to Garden City, MO. where he resided until the spring of this year.
John never met a stranger and he and Beverly enjoyed traveling. They often did so in their 5th wheel. He was a family man, and was never happier than when all of his family was around him.
John lost his beloved wife, Beverly, of 52 years on December 10, 2008. He is also preceeded in death by two sisters, Lucille Brigance and Lillian Bay; two brothers, Alvin and Calvin Taber; nine half-brothers and sisters, and his brother-in-law, and best friend Claude (Buck) Morgan.
John is survived by three sisters, Verna Woolsey, Mountain View, MO, Connie Morgan, Freeman, MO, Mary Shirley, Kansas City, MO; four sons, William E. (Bill) Taber and wife Marlyce, Harrisonville, MO, Michael T. (Mike) Taber and wife Teresa, Garden City, MO, Brian K. Taber and wife Judy, Ankeny, IA, Stanley D. (Stan) Taber and wife Clara, Creighton, MO. He was proud and loving grandpa to ten grandchildren: Jared, Amanda, Christopher, Matthew, Jon Blake, Kara and husband Matthew Evans, Rebecca, Austin, Jessica, and Wesley; two great-grandchildren, Camryn and Cole; two step-grandchildren, Adam and Lori Evans; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with interment in the Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
