John Stephen Barber of Harrisonville, Missouri was born November 1, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Clifford Fredrick and Frances June (Catterlin) Barber. He departed this life Friday, January 2, 2009 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by his loving family at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 1 day.
After graduating from high school, John worked in Respiratory Therapy at Trinity Lutheran Hospital, where he met and married the love of his life, Annette Louise Kirchhoff in Higginsville, Missouri. He enlisted in the Army and served as a medic at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii for 2 years. After returning from the service, John started the Respiratory Therapy Department at Children?s Mercy Hospital. In 1971, John moved to Harrisonville to join the Harrisonville Police Department where he served for 14 years. In 1984, he began working in security at Honeywell, Kansas City, Missouri where he was presently employed.
John was a loving father to his 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He enjoyed family, fishing, boating, travel, horses, taking walks and watching his grandchildren?s sporting and school events. John had a wonderful sense of humor, loved talking and debating, telling exaggerated stories, laughing and cheating at cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Annette Barber of the home; two sons, Don Barber, Freeman, Missouri; Brett Barber and wife Glenda, Archie, Missouri; a daughter, Kristen Hale and husband Lance, Adrian, Missouri; four grandchildren, Blake, Alishia and Claire Barber and Gaven Hale; a brother, William ?Ted? Barber, Roeland Park, Kansas; two sisters, Charlene Ball, Nixa, Missouri, Maxine Herman, St. Charles, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Harrisonville Mennonite Church, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Life Choice Center of Harrisonville.
