John William Hopkins Jr., of Peculiar, Missouri, was born June 5, 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina the son of John William and Florence (Boyer) Hopkins. He departed this life on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 2 days.
On September 4, 1971, John was united in marriage to Phyllis Carol Nugen in Kansas City, Missouri.
John was employed in commercial construction and was a member of the Local Union #27L, Kansas City, Missouri. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. John loved to fish, garden and cook but his greatest love spending time with his family and grandchildren. His family was the most important thing in his life and they always came first. John was known as a loyal, loving, honorable, smart and funny man who enjoyed passing down his wisdom to family and friends. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hopkins of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Franklin and husband Richard, Flowery Branch, Georgia, Lisa Messinger and husband Ryan, Pleasant Hill, Missouri; 2 grandsons, Samuel and Evan; a brother, Joseph Hopkins and a sister, Deborah Kelley; other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the home of his daughter, Lisa Messinger.
