Keith Lee Thomas, of Creighton, Missouri was born February 14th, 1956 in Butler, Missouri the son of Billy Keith and Virginia Lee (Hammonds) Thomas. He departed this life on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his home at the age of 60 years, 9 months and 1 day.
On December 3, 1977 Keith was united in marriage to Teresa Jewel (Tabor) Thomas. From this union Keith and Teresa had 3 sons. Jason, Justin and Jeremy.
They resided in Harrisonville, Missouri until 1986. Keith attended Harrisonville Public Schools and graduated from High School in 1974. He then attended Central Missouri State University where he received an Associate in Arts degree. Keith began his professional career in 1977 at Black and Veatch. Keith and his family then moved to Louisiana where he was employed by the City of Alexandria for 8 years. In 1994, Keith and Teresa and their three sons moved back to Garden City, Missouri. They lived there until 2000, and then they moved to their residence in the country in Creighton, which became their forever home.
Keith had been employed as the Electric Department Director for the City of Harrisonville for the past 22 years. Keith was a dedicated employee and had several accomplishments with the City of Harrisonville. Among those accomplishments Keith and his department were awarded Department of The Year in 2002 and again in 2011. His department was recognized for their Outstanding Community Service during the ice storm of 2002. Keiths department also received the prestigious RP3 Award in 2015 through the American Public Power Association, a trade group in Washington, D.C., that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities. RP3 is a nationally recognized honor and is only awarded to APPA Members that provide the most reliable and safe power to the public. Across the United States there are only 219 electric utilities who have received this honor and only 3 electric utilities including the City of Harrisonville, to receive The Gold Member status.
Keith was beloved by his family and friends alike. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who always put his family first. Keith enjoyed nature and being outdoors. His favorite hobbies included camping, hunting, and fishing. You could often find Keith spending time with or talking about all his sons or grandkids. He had a unique way of making everyone in his family feel loved and special at all times. Keith was a best friend to all his sons and they all regard him as their personal hero and the greatest man they have ever known. Keith was also the most wonderful grandfather to all his grandkids. They all adored and loved him and always asked to be with Grandpa. Keith never missed a special event in his sons or grandchildrens lives and always showed unconditional love and support to all of them.
Keith touched the lives of many during his lifetime and will always be known for being loving, giving, selfless, compassionate, wise, and supportive. He will truly be missed by all, but never forgotten.
Keith was preceded in death by his father, Billy K. Thomas.
Keith is survived by his wife, Teresa J. Thomas of the home; three sons, Jason Thomas and wife Stephanie, Justin Thomas and wife Abbey and Jeremy Thomas and wife Amber all of Creighton, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Jayden, Jet, Ethan, Evan, Jagger, Gunner, Gavin and Jasper; his mother, Virginia L. Thomas and a brother, Kevin R. Thomas and wife Jennifer all of Harrisonville,Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Dayton Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.
