Lela Faye Woirhaye Campbell Barnett was born June 4, 1924 to James William Woirhaye and Elsie Ewing Woirhaye. Lela left this earthly life February 7, 2009.
Lela married William Harold Campbell August 1, 1941, to this union three daughters and one son were born: Marilyn Faye, Delores Jean, Joy Lynn, and infant son Billy Dean (who precedes her in death). They spent most of their married life north of Ballard, Lela raising the girls and Bill working at Fisher Body in Kansas City, Missouri.
Lela decided when her youngest daughter Joy left home she would do something she had always dreamed of, Lela began nursing school at Nevada, Missouri. She graduated November 29, 1971 as an LPN Nurse. She then began working at Butler Hospital and later became the first Bates County health nurse. The saddest day of Lela?s life besides losing Billy Dean was the death of her beloved husband Bill after a long battle with cancer. Lela married Robert Campbell; their marriage was blissful yet short-lived. Robert preceded Lela in death. Lela married Virgil Barnett on June 18, 1986. The two spent most of their days traveling, camping, and enjoying their grandchildren. Virgil survives Lela Barnett.
Her dear sister Evelyn Campbell of Marshall, Missouri also survives Lela. Lela?s beloved daughter Delores Jean preceded her in death at the young age of 55. Her grandchildren, Kim, Jana, DeAnn, Mark, Darrin, Brooke, and Dana will always hold their ?Nana? close to their hearts. The grandchildren are grateful for her ability to shape their lives. Lela also was a busy great-grandmother to 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
Funeral servives were held Monday, February 9, 2009 at 2:00p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial at the Urich Cemetery, Urich, Missouri.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Twin Lakes Hospice.
