Leo Harley Hitt, 89, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Thursday, January 01, 1925, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Henry Theodore and Reta Mae (Burr) Hitt. He departed this life on Monday, March 24, 2014, at his home.
Leo was a 1942 Pleasant Hill High School graduate. He proudly served for three years in the United States Army during World War II in the United States and the Pacific Theatre of operations.
On January 01, 1947, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Elizabeth (Stalnaker) in Paola, Kansas.
Leo was employed as a part time Letter Carrier in the Pleasant Hill Post office in 1947 and over 32 years rose to Assistant Postmaster before retiring in 1980. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3118 where he served as Post Commander in 1959. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. His interests included amateur radio, wood working, and photography.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn of the home; his brother, Douglas Theodore Hitt of Lees Summit, Missouri; three children; his son, John Allen Hitt of Lees Summit, Missouri; his daughter Linda Marie (son-in-law Dan) Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri; his son Timothy Gilbert (daughter-in-law Daphne) Hitt of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jeff (fiance Lynne) Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri, Kimberly (husband Mike) Spence of Kansas City, Kansas, and Savannah (husband Chris) Webber of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; six great grandchildren, Taylor, Haley, Nick, Joe, Remi, and Esme; other relatives; and a host of many friends.
Visitation was held Thursday, March 24, 2014, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Thursday, at the funeral home. Pastor Carl Knapp of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. The Final Salute Ceremony was also performed by the Pleasant Hill VFW Post #3118 members.
Graveside military services and interment was followed at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and the Pleasant Hill VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers are John Hitt, Dan Wilson, Tim Hitt, Jeff Wilson, Mike Spence, and Chris Webber.
