Leon Troyer

Heaven heard a new voice on Sunday, September 22nd, as Leon Troyer left this earth to join his Yahweh in his eternal home in Heaven. Leon was born on February 16th, 1962, in Garnett, Kansas to Miriam (Mim) and William (Bill) Troyer. He grew up enjoying his time with his brothers, Michael and Eugene, with his family in the Amish Community, and with his local Sherwood Community as well.

Leon attended Sherwood High School, making memories on the football team, singing in the choir, and playing in the band. He worked with his father for Garden City Implement and Garden City Heating and Cooling, and in September of 1980, Leon Married Penny Reitz. From this union came Leon’s three girls and the loves of his life, Heather, Vanessa, and Megan.

Leon attended New Covenant Fellowship and was the worship leader for many years. He also was part of the ground floor of the Training Center, helping to teach, build, and do programs for the students. When the Training Center mourned the loss of one of its own, Leon comforted the TCCS family in writing “Randy’s Song” for the memorial service and was instrumental in finalizing the creation of the Randy Schrock Memorial.

Leon loved, sang, wrote, and lived his life through music. There wasn’t a song he couldn’t sing, an instrument he couldn’t play or an idea he couldn’t write about. He played in several bands. Just to name a few; The Last Mile, The Fugitives, Ace’s & Eights, Double-Ax Due, Southpaw Rebel, Outlaw Junction, and more. Aside from being the most amazing, loving, God-fearing father a daughter could ask for, Leon had many accomplishments that he was truly proud of; he was the winner of many vocal contests including 4 State Idol 2010 that took place in Joplin, MO, a former Program Director and Afternoon On-Air Personality on FM radio, and he wrote and performed all the songs on THE COMMON MAN’S HIGHWAY, an album released to promote Route 66.

His travels and his music took him many places where he eventually returned home to take care of his mom in Adrian, MO. Playing music for others is what he loved, but performing with his mother and making music with his grandchildren was his favorite.

Leon was preceded in death by his father, Bill, and will be mourned by those that remain, mother and stepdad, Mim and Jerry Jackson; daughters Heather Murray, Vanessa Young, and Megan Troyer; brothers Micheal and wife Crissy, and Eugene; step sisters Tammy Cushard and Sharon Jackson; grandchildren Tyler Leon Sr., and wife Alissa, Kaden Murray, and Ariyana Young; great grandchildren Tyler Leon, Jr. and Kane Troyer, nieces Jocelynn and Jaycee Rockhold; nephews Spencer, Reece & Jett Troyer; his beloved fur baby Tiny; his companion Linda White and her son, David White, aka his “Right-Hand Man”, who he loved like his own; and numerous other special friends in his life, along with all of those touched by his music and ministry.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30th, from 9 am to 10 am at New Covenant Fellowship in Garden City, Missouri, with the funeral service to follow at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions made to the Leon Troyer Memorial Fund. Checks can be made payable to Penny Hix and/or Vanessa Young, sent in care to Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.
