Mrs. Laura Leona Harris of Creighton, Missouri was born October 31, 1913 near Creighton, Missouri the daughter of Isaac Roy and Effie Ellen (Gregg) Chandler. She departed this life on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 25 days.
On March 14, 1937 Leona was united in marriage to Chester Harris in Creighton.
Leona was a homemaker and was a life long partner with her husband in their farming operations south of Creighton that spanned over 40 years. Their farm had been in Leona’s family for over 100 years and was awarded recognition as being a Century Farm. Leona was an avid woodworker. She spent many hours selecting the wood, designing and making fine furniture given to family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and was up for any challenge. Leona was a faithful member of the Creighton Christian Church, the Federated Club and the County Extension Club. She was a lifelong area resident.
Besides her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, on October 15, 1986; two sons, Dale and Larry; a brother, George and a sister, Ruby Allbritton.
She is survived by three daughters, Jennalou Peterson and husband, Dennis, Spencer, Iowa, JoEllen Burris and husband, Charles, Ruthven, Iowa, Rhonda Fielding and husband, Dr. Marvin, Sedalia, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; her brother, Gene Chandler, Creighton, Missouri; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Dayton Cemetery.
