Linda Sue (Sexton) Finney

Linda Sue Finney, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, at the Kansas City Hospice House. She was born on July 28, 1948, in Eureka, Kansas, to Edward Albert Sexton and Agnes Irene (Ware) Sexton.

Linda was a dedicated homemaker, who cherished her role within the family. She was known for her witty and authentic nature, and she devoted so much of her time to creating wonderful memories filled with laughter and love. Linda built her life around her family, and her proudest accomplishment was being the best grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a gift for making everyone feel treasured and loved, but also on occasion, for the excellent delivery of that well-known “Sexton look” of disapproval.

An avid enthusiast of simple pleasures, Linda found great joy in activities such as going to the casino, watching Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune, and winning at Yahtzee with her grandchildren and siblings. Her sassy spirit and humble demeanor made her a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew her.

She leaves behind a family that adored her. Linda is survived by her sons, Matthew Drake and his wife Stephanie, Mark Drake and his wife Janell, and her stepdaughters Kandy Dowell and her husband Mitch, Cheri Lee and her husband Tommy, and Dallas Finney. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Thomas Drake (Courtney), Haley Cline (Dylan), Levi Drake, Shelby Lofing (Matt), Emma Schmidt, Ted Smith, Nathan Smith, Kate Smith, Justin Dowell, Kyler Dowell, Matthew Dowell (LaTrisha), Adam Dowell (Autumn), Forrest Dowell (Madison), Shyanne Lee and several great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Jonah, Josie, Lainey, Ellie, Weston, Wayne, Stella, Nora, Cora, Micah, Elijah, Isaiah, Levi, Jackson, Koleman, Lincoln, Shelby, Josiah, Evelyn, Eden and two on the way.

Linda also shared many cherished moments with her siblings, including brothers Jim Sexton and his wife Shirloy, Bob Sexton and his wife Vivian, Allen Sexton and his wife Sherry, Rick Sexton and his wife Jayme, and Charles "Sam" Sexton and his wife Martha, along with sisters Sharon Roberts, Betty Berry and her husband Mike, and Shirley Barondeau and her husband Mike.

Linda's journey through life was touched by loss, as she mourned the passing of her twin sons, Harold and Gerold Drake, her second husband, Tom Rush, and her third husband, Russ Finney. Her love for her family remained unwavering despite these sorrows.

A visitation to honor Linda's memory will be held on September 25, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM at Potts Chapel, located at 122 S Pennsylvania Ave, Independence, KS 67301. Interment will take place at 3:00 pm at Fairview Cemetery in Niotaze, KS.

Linda Sue Finney’s life was rich with love and connection. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
