Ella Marie Gillogly of Harrisonville, Missouri was born September 17, 1915 near Tiffin, Missouri in St. Clair, County the daughter of William Ed and Ruth Gertrude (Martin) VanSlyke. She went home to be in the presence of the Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the age of 92 years and 13 days.
Marie was employed as an accountant for Montgomery Ward in Kansas City, Missouri until her retirement in 1980. She was devoted to the Lord and the churches where she served in numerous capacities. Marie was a former member of the Nall Avenue Baptist Church, Overland Park, Kansas and later transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville. She was a member of the American Business Women Association and the Cass Medical Center Auxiliary, Harrisonville. She had lived in Overland Park, Kansas before moving to Harrisonville.
Marie was a graduate of the Amsterdam, Missouri High School and furthered her education by taking several college courses. She loved to quilt, garden and spent many enjoyable hours fishing with her family.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brenda Kay Gillogly Beckett, one great-granddaughter, Andrea Marie Alonge; a brother, Roy VanSlyke; three sisters, Grace Trued, Norma Mendoza and Ola Rhoads.
She is survived by her son, Ralph Gillogly and wife, June, Drexel, Missouri; her two daughters, Mary Evelyn Koopman and husband, Wayne, Drexel, Missouri, Eva Marlene Shannon and husband, Cecil, Overland Park, Kansas; 7 granddaughters; 7 great-grandchldren; 9 step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Jimmie VanSlyke and wife, Pauline, Liberty, Missouri, Louis VanSlyke and wife, Thelma, Woodville, Texas; other relatives and many friends. Marie will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.mm. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the church.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice or the CMC Auxiliary.
