Mary Sue Hetherington, 53, Peculiar, Missouri died on December 24, 2008 at Camden Health Center, Harrisonville, Missouri, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born February 20, 1955 in Clinton, Missouri the daughter of Ralph Jr. and Dorothy (Lewis) Hetherington.
Mary attended a one room schoolhouse for 4 years and then on into the elementary school in Clinton. In 1968, the family moved to Peculiar where she finished high school. She graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School in 1973. Mary went on to the House of Heave Land Beauty School and was a beautician for several years. She worked as an inspector on medical machines at PPG Bio Medical. Mary also worked as a wirer on the machines that sort mail for the postal services. In her later years, she enjoyed the time she spent preparing taxes for the public at Jackson Hewitt Tax Services in both Harrisonville and Grandview, Missouri. Mary?s hobbies included crocheting, decorating cakes of all kinds and baking cookies. She loved children so babysitting was a great fit for her and she enjoyed helping at church and singing.
Mary had battled both cancer and diabetes for the last 12 years. In March of 2008, she suffered a stroke in which she struggled to recover from.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph E. Hetherington on January 14, 1992.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Mae Hetherington, Peculiar, Missouri; brother, Larry Dale Hetherington and wife Linda; three nephews, Larry Dale Hetherington Jr. and wife Nichole and their children, Brooklyn, Taylor and Colter, Brian Wayne Hetherington and wife Charla, Clint Allen Hetherington and wife Amanda and children, Austin and Ashley all of Harrisonville, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Mary will always be remembered for her kind and loving spirit. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
