Melville Rodgers Creighton of Raymore, Missouri was born September 11, 1916 in Creighton, Missouri the son of Clifford Talmage and Hoyland (Rodgers) Creighton. He departed this life on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Saint Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 6 days.
On January 7, 1940, Melville was united in marriage to Genevieve Lear Coover in Sedalia, Missouri.
Melville was the local Harrisonville State Farm Insurance agent for 27 years receiving many award and wall plaques until his retirement on January 1, 1981. Earlier he was an agent for National Life and Accident Insurance Company, Nashville, Tennessee. Melville was a member of the United Methodist Church, Harrisonville and was an Army veteran of WWII serving 31 months in the Asiatic Theater. Melville was active in Harrisonville community serving on the Cass Co. Memorial Hospital board for 25 years, was a member of Cass Masonic Lodge, Ararat Shrine, American Legion, VFW Post #4409, Harrisonville Development Corporation, Harrisonville Planning Council and Twin Pines Country Club.
He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and playing golf. Melville enjoyed traveling and spending the winter months in Florida. He had lived in Harrisonville until 1994 when he and Genevieve moved to Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Melville is survived by his wife, Genevieve C. Creighton of the home; a 2nd cousin, Jim Cox, Clinton, Missouri; other relatives and a host of friends.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made tot he Hendrick Cemetery Association.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with interment with military honors provived by Harrisonville Honor Guard, Harrisonville, Missouri at Urich Cemetery, Urich, Missouri.
