Melvin ?Mel? Bernard Kleypas, of Garden City, Missouri was born July 28, 1921 at Rosebud, Texas, the son of Lawrence W. and Rose (Beimer) Kleypas. He departed this life Saturday, September 26, 2009 at his home near Garden City at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 28 days.
On August 15, 1944, Mel was united in marriage to Ella Mae Smith at Farmersville, Texas.
Mel was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone beginning in 1943, working his way to the position of Division Plant Manager from which he retired in 1977. He had attended schools in Temple, Texas, graduating from Tyler Junior College in 1946 and Baylor University in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. Mel was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and the American Angus Association. He served as the Gleed Chapter President of the Telephone Pioneers from 1970 until 1971 and as President of the Kansas City Chapter of Sertoma International, continuing as a life member in both organizations. Upon his retirement in 1977, Mel fulfilled his life-long dream of country living and moved to Garden City, Missouri to raise Angus cattle.
Besides his parents, Mel was preceded in death by one sister, Rosemarie Cross, Tyler, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Kleypas of the home; two sons, Mark Kleypas, Kansas City, Missouri. and Larry Kleypas, Grant?s Pass, Oregon.; one daughter, Ann Case, Topeka, Kansas.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Laura Lee Taylor, Tyler, Texas.; one brother, L.D. Kleypas, Cypress, Texas; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the IOOF Cemetery, Farmersville, Texas.
